A professional home for eDiscovery knowledge and development

What is the eDiscovery Certification Council?

The eDiscovery Certification Council (eDCC) is an independent, vendor-neutral organisation focused on professional certification, training and knowledge in eDiscovery. Its work also connects eDiscovery with digital forensics, electronic evidence, AI-assisted review, cloud data, governance, privacy, technology and professional development.

Why the Council exists

The eDiscovery profession sits at the intersection of law, technology, data and evidence. As data sources and technologies change, professionals need more than product familiarity: they need transferable knowledge, defensible workflows, ethical judgement and a clear route for continuing development.

The Council’s role is to help make that professional knowledge easier to learn, validate, apply and share.

Our founders identified a need for greater standardisation and certification within eDiscovery. That principle remains central to the organisation’s direction.

Our purpose

Educate. Make specialist eDiscovery knowledge understandable and accessible.

Validate. Provide professional certification pathways that recognise structured knowledge.

Connect. Bring certification, training, careers, standards, research and practical resources into one coherent ecosystem.

Advance. Encourage ethical, defensible and continually improving professional practice.

What we stand for

Professional value that extends beyond a certificate

The strongest professional credential sits within a wider culture of knowledge, competence, ethics and continued learning.

1

Vendor-neutral knowledge

We emphasise principles and professional capability that can transfer between technologies, employers and changing workflows.

2

Practical relevance

Learning should help professionals understand what they are doing, why it matters, what can go wrong and how to explain their decisions.

3

Ethical practice

Professional conduct is part of professional competence. Certified professionals are expected to support the Council’s Code of Ethics.

4

Continuing development

Certification should be a milestone in professional development, not the end of learning.

5

Accessible knowledge

The Knowledge Hub extends learning beyond paid courses by providing structured educational material across the profession.

6

Professional community

Subject-matter experts, instructors, governance and professional contributors help strengthen the wider eDiscovery ecosystem.
